FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How soon after I send in my payment will my TDR account be activated?

As stated in our Subscription section, a client's account will be activated as soon as actual funds from his/her payment has been received by our financial institution (clearing out-of-state [US-based] personal checks may take up to a week, according to our bank). Our standard procedure is to deposit your payment (check/money order) with our bank not later than the business day following receipt.

Alternatively, our company policy does allow account activation upon receipt of a certified payment instrument (such as a bank check, certified check, money order or electronic funds transfer) as well as payments through PayPal.com (U.S. only).

Can I pay for my TDR subscription with a credit card?

We fully agree that credit card payment is the logical solution for Internet-based commerce, and we do intend to eventually bring on this capability, in order to improve service to TDR customers. However, credit card payment will still not be available as a payment option, at least in the near future.

We are working to offer alternative payment methods. Please refer to Payment Information for further details. Also, please feel free to send us your suggestions.

How should I pay for my subscription to TDR if I reside outside the USA?

For international (non-USA) customers, we strongly recommend a certified payment instrument (such as a bank check or money order), or at least a check drawn on a US-based bank branch, as this would save, on behalf of the customer, very considerable time, collection fees and, yes, unnecessary frustration. We would also be willing to entertain payment by wire fund transfer for international customers. Alternately, our subscribers in Taiwan can make payments through our Special Correspondent in Taipei. All payments for TDR subscription should be denominated in US currency (US$).

How to subscribe to TDR?

Read and agree to the user agreement. Click on the subscription link and follow the directions on that page. Be sure to enter the correct email address, as your account information will be emailed to that address for verification.

How often is TDR updated?

TDR is constantly updated, as new developments occur or as more information comes to light. New stories and illustrations are added to the NEWS/ANALYSIS and/or FLASH Traffic departments at least once a week, whereas the MAIN FEATURES section will receive several new articles at least monthly. The IMAGE GALLERY is updated whenever new photographs become available. Every effort will be made to report on the latest stories and to keep the contents up to the minute.

Will I be eligible for a refund if I decide to cancel my TDR subscription?

Unfortunately, TDR subscription fees are not refundable, in whole or in part, for cancellation at the request of the subscriber, for any reason. We are very confident that TDR will prove both valuable and satisfying to our clients, who would have little desire for early termination of subscription. Nonetheless, if you are undecided about a full-year subscription, we respectfully submit that you first try out a quarterly or semi-annual membership. That way, you can immediately enjoy the benefits that TDR offers, yet retain the flexibility of deciding on more long-term commitment at a later date. Please note, however, that the special introductory discount prices would no longer be available on any subscription or renewal effected after April 30, 1999.

Is there a hard-copy (paper) version of Taiwan Defense Review?

Taiwan Defense Review (TDR) is presently available in the electronic version only. At the moment, at least, there are no plans to introduce a hard-copy edition, which, in our view would lose many of the advantages offered by on-line publishing, whilst greatly increasing the cost of production and dissemination, which would then have to be passed on to our clients. Nonetheless, we may be willing to consider an E-Mail distribution option (initially for the text portions only), depending on whether popular demand warrants such an effort.

May I post articles or pictures from TDR onto other websites/newsgroups/ forums?

All materials contained in Taiwan Defense Review (TDR) are copyright properties of TDR and Terraced Bay Associates, and are protected by law. You may NOT reproduce, post, or otherwise distribute any material from TDR. Violators are subject to prosecution, as well as termination of their TDR subscription service with no refund. Please read the User Agreement (Single User License Agreement) for more detail.

Customers are encouraged to report evidence of any such violations to us immediately, so that we may act swiftly to help protect your rights as a subscriber, as well as the intellectual property rights of TDR/Terraced Bay Associates.

What if I have suggestions to offer or would like to contribute materials to TDR?

We would love to hear from our readers. Please refer to the Contact TDR page for your comments and suggestions to TDR. Alternatively, you can also make use of our Feedback form. We will try to respond to your input as soon as practicable.

Contributions from our readers are strongly encouraged. If you have any materials (information, articles, or illustrations) that you want to see utilized in our publication, please feel to send it directly to TDR (either on-line or by mail) at your convenience, or drop us a line at editor@TDReview.com.

Will I receive a refund for my subscription if TDR ceases operation?

Terraced Bay Associates (the publisher of TDR) will refund prorated subscription fees on the unexpired portion of a client's subscription, in the unlikely event of premature termination of TDR's operations. However, this provision does not apply to termination of subscription at request of the subscriber, for whatever reason, or to temporary interruption in TDR service caused by external events beyond our reasonable control or ability to prevent (e.g. "acts of God" or failure/error by parties on whom we depend for services).
